Gareth Bale was asked about his future after the bitter elimination with Wales in the European Championship round of 16. The offensive star broke off the interview.

Gareth Bale (31) has canceled his TV interview after the 4-0 defeat of Wales in the European Championship round of 16 against Denmark.

The captain of the Welsh national team was asked at the conclusion of the conversation whether this was his last game for the national team. Bale just waved it off and walked away visibly annoyed without a word.

Already at the press conference on Friday, Bale was referred to what may be his last game for Wales. “I’m not going to play like it’s my last game because I want to get to the next round. The focus is on this game and not looking to the future,” Bale said.

The rumors of a possible resignation from the national team had already arisen before the tournament. Asked about his future after the loan year at Tottenham Hotspur and before the imminent return to Real Madrid, Bale replied that he did not want to talk about his future until after the European Championship to avoid “chaos”.

Welsh national coach Robert Page said at the press conference after the European Championship against Denmark about Bales interview termination: “It is an insensitive question. He came off the pitch after a defeat, the emotions were fresh.”

Gareth Bale: “The boys are frustrated”

Bale had previously explained how disappointing his team’s elimination in the round of 16 was: “The game should not go like this. To drop out the way we did is disappointing, the guys are frustrated and upset – understandably so.”

Wales came into the game better against Denmark, Bale himself gave the first shot of the match. With a 1-0 deficit, Wales started at half – time and tried to “make the game, but we made a mistake and conceded the goal directly,” Bale explained: “That killed the momentum on our side.”

It was simply disappointing. That’s all he could say. This was followed by the question of his future and Bale actually said nothing more.
