Erling Haaland has shown himself well recovered in the first game of the new Bundesliga season. With two goals and three assists, the Norwegian was the guarantor of BVB’s victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Preparer, driver and scorer – the outstanding attacker Erling Haaland has given the new coach Marco Rose a spectacular Bundesliga debut at Borussia Dortmund. Together with the equally brilliant Marco Reus, the Norwegian led the Revierclub to a deserved 5: 2 (3: 1) over Eintracht Frankfurt. Haaland’s quota was outstanding: With two goals and three preparations, he was directly involved in all BVB goals: The scorers were Reus (23rd minute), Thorgan Hazard (32nd), finally Haaland (34th/70th) and Giovanni Reyna (58th) in front of 25,000 spectators.

On the other hand, for Eintracht after the end of the DFB Cup a week ago at SV Waldhof Mannheim (0:2) the false start is perfect. The interim 1:1 equalizer by the own goal of Felix Passlack (27.) and the late goal of new entry Jens Petter Hauge (86.) could not change anything.

No chance for Eintracht Frankfurt

With the success over Eintracht, Borussia continued the famous final spurt of the past season. Thanks to a performance with a lot of passion and speed, the eighth win of the season succeeded one after the other and thus a similarly strong series as in the champion season 2011/12. Unlike at the beginning of April, when BVB had to accept the last defeat to date in the 1:2 at the same venue against Frankfurt, the Hessians were without a chance this time.

Although Borussia had to do without numerous well-known professionals such as Mats Hummels, Emre Can, Thomas Meunier and Julian Brandt, they took over the direction from the beginning. Inspired by the loud and long-missing support of the fans, the Rose team gained first chances through Haaland (8th) and Reyna (17th).

Especially the intensive pressing prescribed by Rose caused the Eintracht enormous problems. The emergence of the Dortmund leadership was an example of this. After Jude Bellingham and Thorgan Hazard combined, Haaland launched a counter-attack, which Reus successfully completed with a low shot from ten metres. But especially Haaland’s long, inimitable sprint through the midfield was a big show.

100. Goal for Reus

For Reus it was the 100. Bundesliga for BVB. Only Manfred Burgsmüller, Michael Zorc, Lothar Emmerich and Stephane Chapuisat had cracked this mark before. In addition, he recommended himself to grandstand guest Hansi Flick for an early return to the German national team.

But the joy of the hitherto superior Dortmund lasted only four minutes. An own goal from Felix Passlack out of nowhere briefly brought Eintracht back into the game. The outside defender conveyed the ball into his own net in an attempt to clear the penalty area.

This setback could not stop the momentum of the Dortmund. Even before the break, they hit back twice ice – cold-and both times Haaland was involved. At 2: 1 by Hazard, the Norwegian did the preparatory work, at 3:1 he hit after ball conquest against Stefan Islanker from twelve meters himself. Again, the Norwegian had marched inexorably through the midfield before.

After the break Eintracht was short

After the break, the BVB initially shifted back a gear. The guests used this to intensify their attacking game. Only a brilliant parade of the new BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel with a header from Maury Borré (47.) prevented the Frankfurt kick.

But at the latest with the 4:1 by Reyna from a short distance after repeated preliminary work by Haaland, the game was decided. The great show of the two exceptional talents in Dortmund attack was rounded off by the 5:1, as Reus Haaland served exemplary and the Norwegian with his 62nd goal in the 61st competitive match for BVB turned the stadium into a madhouse.
