DFB Cup
Gladbach, Ingolstadt and KSC prevail – only one Bundesliga club gets problems

Gladbach’s goalscorer Lars Stindl (r.) rejoices with team mates over the goal to 0:1 against Kaiserslautern

Now only the Bayern ran: Four other teams have made the leap into the second cup round – Hoffenheim only with Ach and Krach in extra time. There’s still a game to play.

Thanks to goal guarantor Andrej Kramaric and a lot of effort, Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim only fought their way into the second round of the DFB Cup in extra time. The team of coach Sebastian Hoeness sat down on Monday night at the third division club FC Viktoria Köln with 3:2 (1:1, 1:1) through. Kramaric made the decision in the 107th minute with his second goal.

Borussia Mönchengladbach also lived up to their role as favourites in the late game. In traditional third division clubs 1. FC Kaiserlautern was enough for the guests in front of 5000 spectators on the Betzenberg at 1:0 (1:0) a goal from captain Lars Stindl in the eleventh minute to progress.

Second division clubs Ingolstadt and Karlsruhe in round 2

Without detention, the second division clubs FC Ingolstadt and Karlsruher SC had previously come a round further. Ingolstadt decided the league duel with the Saxons of Erzgebirge Aue 2:1 (1:0) for themselves. The KSC had at 4:1 (1:0) at the Regionalligist Sportfreunde Lotte no problems. Thus, 15 of 17 Bundesliga clubs have entered the second round so far – only Greuther Fürth (at fourth division club Babelsberg) and Eintracht Frankfurt were eliminated. At the competitive debut of their new coach Oliver Glasner, the Hessians delivered a shockingly weak performance at the third division club SV Waldhof Mannheim and flew out of the competition by the 0:2 (0:0) defeat.

Bayern Munich still have to go to Bremen

The first round will be decided on 25 August (8.15 pm) by Bremer SV and record Cup winner FC Bayern Munich. The original game date had to be postponed last Friday due to corona cases at Bremen.
