Houses evacuated, landslides, flooded streets, full cellars-in Upper Bavaria, the fire brigade has been in continuous operation since Saturday evening after heavy rain. The situation is dramatic, said a spokesman for the Integrated Control Center Traunstein. Because of the flood, the district of Berchtesgadener Land has declared a disaster.

The towns of Berchtesgaden and Bischofswiesen in the extreme southeast of Bavaria were particularly affected. There the water shot out of the mountains, at the same time the levels of the river Ache rose. Due to sliding slopes, individual houses had already been cleared. The district is now coordinating the operation. The people in the places had been called to stop entering their cellars.

“Emergency calls are constantly coming in,” said a police spokesman in Rosenheim. In the district of Berchtesgadener Land, all fire brigades are required. “The situation is confusing,” said the spokesman. “It rains heavily.”Federal roads were flooded or closed because of mudslides.

Bach develops into a raging torrent

In Austria, too, parts of the city centre of Hallein near Salzburg are flooded after torrential rains. A stream has turned into a raging torrent, the police confirmed on Saturday corresponding videos that can be seen on the Internet.

“The situation is very tense, sometimes dramatic,” said a police spokesman. However, there is currently no evidence of injuries. On the videos you can see how cars are carried away by the water masses.

The situation is also tense in other parts of the Austrian Alps. Around Kitzbühel, the fire brigade had to pump numerous cellars empty.
