Autonomous vehicles without a driver – they are part of the Vision of a future mobility. Microsoft does not want to leave the design to its competitors Apple and Google alone, and with partners in the lucrative market.

Microsoft wants to be involved in the next technology group in the business with self-driving cars.

The Windows giant is involved in a two-billion-Dollar round of financing, the Robotaxi company Cruise in the car group General Motors, the companies said on Tuesday.

Cruise has been assessed a total of $ 30 billion. The company has been testing their vehicles for years in San Francisco and has already presented the prototype of an Autonomous Taxis without a driver.

Microsoft wants to bring to the partnership, among other things, services for its Cloud platform Azure on the Cruise in the future mainly will use. The round of financing, the Japanese car maker Honda is involved in addition to the parent company, GM.

The other big Tech companies are already very active in the area: The Google-a sister company Waymo is considered to be a leading developer of Robotaxi-technology, Apple is also working on systems to Autonomous Driving, Amazon bought the car the Robot developer Zoox, and associated with him in its device division.

Cruise got in the past year, the approval to send cars without a driver at the wheel on the streets of San Francisco. Previously, Waymo, and Zoox had also the permission to drive without a human at the wheel on public roads.

Cruise had originally announced the Start of a Robotaxi offer for 2019, the date but then postponed indefinitely.
