Mi Air Batch: Xiaomi shows technology that charges Smartphones from several feet away - even through people through

The Chinese electronics manufacturer Xiaomi has launched a new experimental technology that is able to charge Smartphones from several meters away.

Wireless Charging – this especially small load so far are mats meant to be a Smartphone and the built-in battery can charge. This is more convenient than to have to with a plug to a Mini-Jack to fiddle around with, but doesn’t change the fact that you have to connect the device day-to-day to the power outlet.

Now, the Chinese electronics manufacturer Xiaomi has presented on his company’s own Blog is a technology, which is able to charge multiple devices simultaneously over a distance of several meters wirelessly. The technology is called “Mi Air Charge”. As a charger, a white, about 50 cm high box, in which according to the manufacturer, of 144 antennas are installed, which transmit the power in millimeter waves by Beamforming to the terminals is used. This can be Smartphones, but also smart watches, speakers, or Bluetooth headphones.

However, the devices also need special antennas for the Transmission equipped. By means of a transmitter (called a Beacon) tells the phone to the charger nonstop its exact Position in space.

The Charge is to be made with up to 5 watts, so it should take many hours to a modern Smartphone is fully charged. For comparison: There is already a classic power supplies the Smartphones with up to 125 watts of charging. When Wireless Charging with charging mats is the Maximum currently stands at around 80 watts. However, the device is loaded with the wireless technology also is durable and can be used during the normal.

The technology is still

For the “Mi Air Charge”technology, many deployment scenarios are conceivable. So could, in the future, charging a charging station in an open office environment, the devices of several people. According to Xiaomi, the charging efficiency is reduced, when objects are located between the charging base and the charging device. That is, The radio power passes through walls, tables, cabinets, and people. On possible health risks has not commented the company.

Xiaomi has confirmed to the U.S. technology portal “The Verge” already that this year will be no product support for the Mi Air Charge will come to market. Thus one can assume that some years will pass until the product is seen in the mass market.

The battle for wireless Charging

Other companies rely on similar technologies for wireless Charging of electronic devices. The company Enorgous and Powercast demonstrated already several years ago solutions to make power supplies unnecessary. However, none of the concepts is not yet market-ready leads. These companies are not only faced with the challenge to develop a working, cost-effective solution, but also to bring the Smartphone manufacturer with the boat.

Unlike Xiaomi, The Chinese group offers in addition to Smartphones and Fitness devices, also other devices, such as vacuum cleaner robots, drones, or Wi-Fi scales. The innovative charging technology should go to market, you could install the company’s technology directly into its entire Ecosystem.
