Not much going on these days on Rostock’s streets – as is actually the case everywhere in Germany. And yet, the Hanseatic city of in Corona ahead of other cities quite a bit. Currently, the so-called 7-day incidence in Rostock in 47.4 per 100,000 inhabitants – and thus below the limit of 50.

Why are the infection numbers so low, the citizens own theories.

“I think, first and foremost, on the North German mentality. We are not the Hugger and kisser in the southern climes.”

“I could imagine that also the fact is that it is a student city, and Yes a lot of young people live here.”

“I think that the discipline of the people is relatively high.”

Theory or not. A glance at the Figures shows: Rostock cuts as a city in a nationwide comparison, at best. Between the 30. August 2020 and the 25. January 2021, the average incidence was in the Hanseatic city of 26.6.

The town hall is happy to Pay the low Corona. The non-party mayor went here early on a very own way.

Claus Peace Madsen, Mayor Of Rostock

“In fact, we have told enormously early in the pandemic, we are closing all the schools, day-care centres. We say a big concert with 5,000 people. Since there were no state or Federal regulation. Since we have determined we can do this now. We have arrived in autumn, as, in turn, requirements that there is no alcohol in the public space, we have mulled wine stalls in the city immediately. I think then, at the end of the day, you can explain it so well. We have introduced in large Parts of the city early mask of duty and actually very rigorously tested.”

In addition, the native Dane with the help of a local Biotech company had at the beginning of the pandemic, police and rescue forces for mass testing. The cost of the Tests, the group took over. The government criticized it alone, and said, at times, even corruption.

But Madsen is the criticism not to be swayed. If it were up to him, would be Restaurants and shops open again soon, and Rostock, to the pilot city.

“First of all, we should Hygiene concepts to pick up on that we already had. I am convinced that to have worked very well. Neither in the trade nor from the gastronomy, we have data that it’s come to high contagions. Secondly, we have to drive a stronger test strategy and employees working in the trade more often test. In order to give the employees safety but also the customers. You just have to have a good concept.”

However, with the Madsens solution approaches, some people are not helped. Inga Wulf actually operates a small Bistro in Rostock, since the nationwide Lockdown is closed. Now she helps out on a Market stall.

“For example, my kitchen is so small, even with a good concept of Hygiene I can receive five people there, but that is not enough. I can’t open it. I need at least 25 to 30 for lunch guests, so my kitchen is wearing, and then has taken of my kitchen. But I have earned me a living. Then, it is quite nice that I could open the door, but it won’t help me at all. It’s just kind of weird.”

“How long I can keep this up, I can’t really say. Long as I don’t believe that anymore.”

Many of the Rostock are in favour of the Shutdown measures, and adhere to the rules.

“Clearly you missed something. But overall it is not different.”

“I don’t know whether the participating youth so long. Are we supposed to take it easy on it. But it is difficult.”

“I have the feeling that a lot of people have slowly no desire more on the action and slowly, irrational, and go out and meet people and celebrate.”

“This is so irresponsible, what are they doing. I come from a Generation, I have the war, the expulsion part. I know what the limitations are.”

With limitations these days, especially nursing home residents have to cope. In the seniors residence warnow castle is currently home to 135 people. The average age is 80 years. In order to protect the residents, has Director Anne Micheel made arrangements.

Anne Micheel, Director

“Initiated, we have that each course in the nursing care of a FFP2-mask wearing in normal everyday life without Corona infection. The residents should stay on your own living area, not with other residents of the other living areas merge. You should of course also comply with the minimum distance, which is, of course, especially in the case of dementia patients residents very, very difficult.”

To test in addition to staff members, established a residence for senior citizens, a test station. Despite all the security measures, it came at the end of December to an outbreak. Three residents and three care workers were infected.

For the residents it is a lonely time. Many currently have only contact to the nursing staff. The visit time is limited to one hour.

Eva Spörke, Resident

“My children, my daughter-in-law and my son, otherwise would be there every weekend, because they work Yes. In the week you can’t. But now was lock with a visit. But they were already here and had to leave the front of the entrance test and then were allowed to. But An only – son. My daughter-in-law is not allowed. It also makes me a bit sad. But the Situation is so. I think we have to go in there!”

Thus, the Incidence remains in Rostock low, is it still: hold.

Claus Peace Madsen, Mayor Of Rostock

“But the really crucial question is not how many people at the end of the survival. And if we manage to have a very low number until the end of the pandemic, then I’m the happiest mayor of Germany.”
