Good vacuum robots do not have to be expensive. The Ultenic T10 is available with state-of-the-art navigation technology and a convenient suction station for only 400 euros.

A few years ago they were still exotic, today they are indispensable in many households: robotic vacuum cleaners. They do not completely replace manual vacuuming, but still ensure a permanent basic cleanliness. The question that arises today is: how much do I really need to spend to achieve good performance?

We have the Ultenic T10 try. Its peculiarity. The mobile vacuum cleaner is supplied with a large suction station, which empties the small dust container in the device. In the station there is a bag of 4.5 liters – this is enough for about two months of dirt. The set costs about 600 euros regular – but Ultenic also offers the combination for 400 euros.

Unpacking and installation are child’s play. A remote control is included as a nice feature, so the device can also be controlled without a smartphone app. The Wifi connection works over 2.4 GHz and not with 5.0 GHz – but the device has no problem with a double network on both frequencies.

The vacuum cleaner is constructed as usual. In the center there is a rotating brush of medium size. A round brush-broom shovels the dirt from the sides towards the intake slot. The chassis creates higher thresholds and thick carpets without problems. On the top rises the dome of the lidar radar, with which the device measures the apartment. For charging and suction, the T10 docks independently. The station does not have a floor platform on which the sucker stands, as in iRobot, and is only slightly tapered at the bottom. Robots and vacuum cleaners together then occupy the noticeable footprint of about 35×50 centimeters. Here you have to look, where to put the device in small apartments. The ensemble also fits under a table, but hardly under a bench because of the height of the station. The instruction manual recommends – as with all devices-a lot of free space next to the station, this is not necessary, only squeezing it is not allowed.

Careful and focused

Setting up the app is simple and self-explanatory. It can also be changed to German. As expected, lidar positioning is straightforward and accurate. If you like, you can treat yourself to the fun and accompany the robot during an initial exploration of the apartment on the app. Then you can see exactly how the radar is spying on the rooms.

The T10 is a careful housemate by type. He does not rummage against the walls and tries to stay out of navigation traps. On the app you can track the cleaning paths. The advantages are obvious: the T10 does not scratch furniture or baseboards and it-almost-never gets stuck. He almost always safely returns to the base. But you can also see that he avoids a” forest ” of table legs. So complicated and completed zones are not sucked. Own assessment: a good choice. If a robot is too energetic here, the chair legs are pushed back and forth, or he often goes into a hopeless situation from which he does not find his way back.

The suction power can be adjusted in several stages. As always, full power is loud, in times of home office less is sometimes more. The 5,200 mAh LG lithium-ion battery is certainly enough for a very large apartment. The T10 has a brushless motor, so it works without wear.

A little wipe

The T10 can also work in a swipe mode. The dust container is also a water tank. To be wiped, the tank must be filled. In the water you can add a detergent. Finally, a fleece is attached under the wiper. The robot then also moves differently. He drives back and forth and tails with the fleece over the ground. One should not expect too great a cleaning performance. Dried tomato sauce is not removed. But it is wiped damp. Especially in southern areas with great heat, tiled floors and a lot of dust, this is sure to be a real plus. But often only a nice-to-have.

Restricted zones can be set up on the navigation map. But that was not necessary in our rather complicated household. The U10 circumnavigates all problem areas. There were only disturbances if the device had eaten a cloth or a shoelace lying around. Rooms can be named on the map and the robot can be moved there with commands.

Since everyone has to query their own habits. Those who send the robot on its journey by timer will have less need for it. As with all robots, there is no technical solution to a problem anyway: closed doors. In locked rooms such as the bathroom and bedroom, a robot must fit.

As always, the brush must be freed from hair every now and then. It can be largely disassembled, so the hair can also be removed at the end of the rollers. In any case, brush rollers do not suffer as much from long hair as rubber rollers, which like to be cut by the fibers. The T10 is bright white, like almost all household appliances from Asia. A slightly more muted color scheme would actually be more appropriate. But because he works carefully, he doesn’t scratch.

Conclusion

The T10 convinced above all because it performs its tasks smoothly and always returns to its station. In a positive sense, he is a housemate who is rarely noticed. This is matched by the large extraction station, which makes it possible to leave the device largely to itself. In operation, the T10 works at least as reliably as far more expensive brand devices. However, the combination of lidar localization and suction is never cheap. But the promotional prices of 400 euros are a real bargain, where you can not go wrong, even if you have to look for something to catch the good price.
