  • The one-of-a-kind Antetokounmpo NFT sold for almost 113.9 ETH.
  • In September 2020, an autographed Giannis Antetokounmpo rookie card sold for $1.8M.

On Sunday, a 1/1 NFT card of Giannis Antetokounmpo sold for $187,000 in Ethereum, setting a new record for the most ever paid for a Sorare NBA card. For such a young platform, this month’s sales were particularly impressive.

The one-of-a-kind Antetokounmpo NFT sold at auction over the weekend on the Ethereum-based Sorare NBA platform for almost 113.9 ETH, or slightly over $187,000. According to information provided by CryptoSlam, the previous record selling price for an Anthony Davis NFT was more than $62,000 in December, but this price has already tripled.

NBA Trading Card Craze

Furthermore, this is the biggest selling of Giannis Antetokounmpo NFTs. On NBA Top Shot, Dapper Labs’ Flow blockchain-powered marketplace for video collectibles, the NBA champion Bucks player was auctioned for $95,000. The date of this deal was February 2021. It’s tied for the 16th biggest Top Shot sale in the history of the business.

When compared to the athlete’s top score in terms of tangible trading card sales, however, Sorare’s finest NBA players fall short. In September of 2020, an autographed Giannis Antetokounmpo rookie card sold for approximately $1.8 million. Once, it was the most expensive basketball trading card ever sold.

The Sorare NBA Sale is a big deal for a platform that only started up in October. Along with that, it comes after a period of falling NFT pricing and sales. For example, the last time so many NBA Top Shot NFTs were purchased was approximately two years ago. More than a billion dollars have been made through secondary market sales of NFTs thanks in part to the success of NBA Top Shot in 2021.
