He grew up in Vermont and he honed his interviewing skills as a supermarket cashier by asking Bernie Sanders “Paper or plastic?” After graduating from Syracuse University in 1999, Jeff began his journalistic odyssey at The Watertown Daily Times in upstate New York, where he impressed then-U.S. Senate candidate Hillary Clinton so much she called him “John” at the end of an interview. From there, he went to Annapolis, Maryland, where he covered city, county and state government at The Capital newspaper. Today, Jeff writes about anything and everything. Along the way, Jeff has covered wildfires, a tropical storm, 9/11 and the Dec. 2 terror attack in San Bernardino. If you have a question or story idea about politics or the inner workings of government, please let Jeff know. He’ll do his best to answer, even if it involves a little math.

We know it from the European Championship: footballers who interrupt the game to drink water. What’s that like running? There, too, the supply of liquid is important in the heat – but unlike many think

Running is healthy. No doubt. But what about when – as in recent days – the temperature rises to record highs? Should you then rather skip the shoes and calmly hope to cool down in the shade?

First of all: A warm summer is no reason to do without endurance training in the fresh air. Scientists and physicians agree on this. Runners do not have to take any special precautions up to 25 degrees – beyond the usual sun protection. If the thermometer rises towards the 30 degree mark, you can still walk. But you have to actively prepare for the running round. After all, training at such a high temperature is extremely demanding for the circulation and body, the performance decreases. In the new episode of the podcast ” She runs. He’s running.”let’s deal with this very topic.

Even the type of socks is important in the summer

My co-host Mike Kleiß, for example, loves to run for a long time even at high temperatures. “With the right preparation, this is also easily feasible,” he says. As a science editor, I warn against it: “If you run in the heat, you risk your health. You should definitely take a walk out.”Of course, the sufficient supply of fluid is central, but there are many other factors that runners should pay attention to, especially in summer.

We talk about our own experiences – and give many tips on how to get through the summer time well and healthy. Among other things, we reveal which sunscreen is suitable for runners. Believe me, there is hardly anything more unpleasant than when the sunscreen runs into the eye with the sweat. We are talking about how to notice that the body is overheating. And why even the choice of socks decides whether you get through the summer run well. Listen in. We look forward to meeting you.
