Premier League newcomers Brentford have won their first game in England’s top division in 74 years 2-0 (1-0) against Arsenal. The goals were scored by Sergi Canós (22nd minute) and Christian Nørgaard (73rd minute).

Thus, Arsenal had not imagined the start to the new season: after a disappointing eighth place in the previous season, the club signed, among other things, the English international Ben White for 60 million euros. But the hosts were allowed to cheer after 90 minutes. The team of the Danish coach Thomas Frank, in which the German U21 European champion Vitaly Janelt was also in the starting eleven, prevailed deservedly in the new stadium.

The 1-0 by Canós in the first half was followed in the 73rd minute by Nørgaard after a mistake in the defense of the Gunners 2-0. However, goalkeeper Bernd Leno was clearly hampered by the header of the Dane, who had played between 2012 and 2013 in the U23 of Hamburger SV.

Manchester United (1.30 pm against Leeds United), Champions League winners Chelsea (4pm against Crystal Palace) and Liverpool FC (6.30 pm at Norwich City) will also start the new season tomorrow. Champions Manchester City will play their opening game of the new season at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday (5.30 pm).
