The U.S. company Nixplay has specialized in digital photo frame. Thus, it is possible to send photos from the Playground to the chest of drawers of grandma in a few seconds. However, this has its price.

Digital photo frames were a decade ago, the most popular gifts of all: in 2009, the German bought 1.4 million pieces. Very often they ended up on the kitchen counter and chests of drawers of Large – and parents-in-law, because the dear Relatives were able to constantly see pictures of (Grand)children. Many of the devices had, however, a catch: New images could bring only cumbersome via a connected USB-Stick or SD-card to the frame. And so the images were scavengers framework in the short or long-to expensive Dust.

These weak modern digital images have a fixed point of the frame now. You are connected to the Internet so that you can even shop on – the-go new photos to the frame via either the Browser or conveniently via the App. In Corona-times was to remain the “in contact”, even if only digitally, is more important than ever. Who lives hundreds of kilometers away, would like to sometimes send a picture to the grandparents, as the grandson of rocks for the first Time on its own. This one uses mostly Whatsapp, but the photos don’t come out on the tiny display to full advantage.

Great Screen

One of the market leaders the US-based company Nixplay. While many companies buy only “No-Name”frames from the far East and your own Logo on the frame bonding, has Nixplay developed over the years a range of digital frames and a name for himself in the scene. On the one hand, you have a Software that supports every imaginable bells and whistles and still use is intuitive. The company developed their devices consistently and offers you more sizes and styles.

If you are considering the purchase of a Wi-Fi frame, you should keep two things in mind: You need a permanent stable Internet connection, the Nixplay Frame to be exclusively concerned via Wi-Fi with a new image material. A physical slot for USB Sticks, hard drives or SD card Slots, there is not. In addition, you have to accept, that their own images will be stored in the Cloud.

For my Test, I tested the 9.7-inch model with a 2K screen, the screen diagonal and thus corresponds to 24.6 centimeters – as much as on older iPads. Photos to come on this area a great advantage. 2K means that the screen has a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. The resolution is so high that you can see with the naked eye, no pixels. Images appear brilliant on the frame and rich in contrast so that you can discover on them many Details. It is one of the best Displays in the Segment.

The resolution also shows that The image’s aspect ratio is 4:3, which corresponds approximately to the standard recording of the iPhone camera. An important Detail, because other models from the manufacturer have a 16:10 screen, which is optimized for the images in a mirror reflex camera.

The frame has a shiny, no matte screen. To be aware of if you want to place it directly opposite a window front. What this looks like, this photo shows:

You must, however, say: it is not exactly a light-filled window, front or Studio lights are disturbing reflections with no issue.

Nixplay: a frame with two Sensors

In the box is a power supply are next to the black frame (which is surprisingly easy), and a remote control (can be attached magnetically to the back of the frame) contain several plug-in adapter and mounting parts, the frame can also be wall-mounted.

The frame itself is made of plastic and can be used in portrait or landscape format. On the back of a semi-rigid cable stand that the frame can be set up is located.

In the context of two small Sensors are located: A reacts to movement and can detect whether someone is in the room and, accordingly, the frame is turned on or off. The Sensors don’t look so elegant, but practical, so that the frame is not activated all the time and unnecessarily consumes power. The second is an infrared sensor and receives signals from the remote control.

From the Smartphone directly to the frame

The establishment of the framework is completed-explanatory and within a few minutes. New photos and Videos to download directly and in a comfortable with the App (available for iOS and Android) in the Cloud. So you can send within a few seconds, directly from the Playground, a photo of the rocking grandson to the frame of the grandparents. Anyone who wants to, but can also be accessed via the Browser on the Desktop Computer to the images-Playlists. Before that, one must register with name and E-Mail address on the Nixplay web Portal.

Conclusion: Expensive, but handy

The target group of the Nixplay Frames are uncles and aunts, grandparents, and distant relatives who have no desire to deal much with technology, but still not from the her family life is disconnected want to be. My tested model a 9.7 – inch Display, which is bright and high-resolution images and Videos come out well. The monitor displays photos brilliantly, as long as he is not positioned directly opposite a window. The Software on both the frame as well as the accompanying App is designed to be intuitive. The matching wall bracket is included in the scope of delivery.

With the App, it is easy for you to send new images to the frame. This requires, however, necessarily a Wi-Fi connection – an Alternative to the Cloud, there is not in this model, physical Storage media, such as USB-Sticks or SD-cards can not be connected. With 250 euros, the frame is also not a bargain.

However, there is also significantly less expensive models and sometimes under 100 Euro with smaller and not-so-high-resolution screens. The fact of the photos are not so brilliant, for most of you but this is enough.
