England flies home – to the semifinals of the European Football Championship. In the quarter-finals in Rome, the team of coach Gareth Southgate won 4-0 (1-0) against Ukraine.

Harry Kane took the lead after just four minutes. Harry Maguire (46. Minute) and Kane with his second goal (50.) provided shortly after the break for the preliminary decision. Jordan Henderson headed the 4:0 (63.).

The game was just four minutes old when England were already cheering for the lead. Raheem Sterling passed the ball to the five-meter space and Harry Kane shot in falling with the pike 1:0 (4.).

The defensive initial tactics of the Ukrainians were thus thrown over the heap. The English team more often left the ball to the outsider after the goal, but the team of coach Andriy Shevchenko lacked ideas and pace. The best chance of the Ukrainians had Roman Yaremchuk, when he intercepted a misplaced pass in the English build-up game and failed with a shot from an acute angle to goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (17.).

Much more was not seen offensively from Ukraine. Even the English, in which Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho was in the starting eleven for the first time at this European Championship, did no more than necessary. Declan Rice with a shot from 20 meters (34.) and Sterling in the penalty area (40.) had good chances for the second goal, but goalkeeper Georgiy Bushchan parried both.

Two goals in four minutes

After the break, the English team struck again early. Luke Shaw brought a high ball into the penalty area and Maguire hit the head to 2:0 (46.). Four minutes later, Shaw crossed from the left into the centre and Kane headed the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Bushchan into the goal (50.).

After that, there was hardly anything to see from the Ukrainian team offensively. Instead, England added the fourth goal: Mason Mount beat a corner into the penalty area and Jordan Henderson also hit a head to 4:0 (63.).

That was sealed from Ukraine, in the final phase the outsider came to no conclusion.
