The German national football team will send a signal against racism at the European Championship and, like opponents England, will collectively kneel before the kick-off of the round of 16. This was announced by Captain Manuel Neuer at the press conference in London on Monday evening. One wants to join the game on Tuesday evening (18.00 Clock, Liveticker SPIEGEL.de, TV: ARD, Magenta TV) at Wembley Stadium to “show solidarity” with the English, who showed this gesture at all matches, said the goalkeeper of FC Bayern Munich.

“We stand for tolerance. There was no question for us. We move along immediately,” Neuer said. In return, England captain Harry Kane will wear the rainbow bandage for tolerance and diversity on his arm like Neuer as a player leader. “The English are in solidarity with the bandage and want to show that,” Neuer said.

“More influence to make a difference”

The keeper is proud to have made a mark. “It has often been the case in the past that we have not positioned ourselves politically in this way and have instead followed the guidelines as it has always been. Now – thanks in part to social media-everyone has more influence to make a difference,” Neuer said.

Uefa had launched an investigation into the Rainbow captain’s armband after Neuer wore it in the first two European Championship matches. However, the association immediately reinstated them.
