Marcel Halstenberg only has one year left on his contract in Leipzig. Now apparently the BVB has registered interest in the national player.

The BVB is apparently interested in a commitment of national player Marcel Halstenberg from RB Leipzig. Report Image and Sport1 on Thursday evening.

According to this, especially new BVB coach Marco Rose is a big fan of the 29 – year-old left-back and central defender, who was already under contract in Dortmund from 2011 to 2013, but was only used there for the reserve.

The Leipzig team, where Halstenberg was a regular at left-back, are expected to demand around twelve million euros for the international, who only had a half-hour spell against Portugal at the European Championship. So far too much for the BVB, who allegedly only wants to pay between seven and eight million.

RB Leipzig: Halstenberg only under contract until 2022

However, an advantage in the negotiations for the Dortmund is the contract situation of Halstenberg at RB. The contract of the defensive player expires in 2022, which could make Leipzig cash with a sale one last time.

In Dortmund, Halstenberg would be primarily a candidate for a three – or five-chain system and could play in the center next to Mats Hummels and Manuel Akanji as well as on the left wing. Rivals at BVB in his position would be Nico Schulz, who has rarely been able to convince since his move to Dortmund, and Raphael Guerreiro, who could also act in the midfield center or in a more offensive role.

After the departures of Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig) and Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool FC) Halstenberg beckons more than ever a regular place in the defensive line at the Saxons. Questionable whether he wants to risk this.

Halstenberg joined RB from FC St. Pauli in 2015 and has so far played 185 competitive games (13 goals, 23 assists). in 2018, shortly after his national team debut, a ruptured cruciate ligament threw him back.
