At the end of The Iceman showed nerves, “” but then. Eleven Try eleven match Darts from left Gerwyn Price about two sentences, before the twelfth arrow, then sat at last in the double-5, and the 7:3 victory against Gary Anderson at London’s Alexandra Palace was. The Sid Waddell Trophy, 500.000 British pounds in prize money and the Position as the new number one in the world ranking, earned him this Dart in a double box, with which you have to finish each Leg of 501 to zero. “I have never felt in my life, so much pressure,” said the Welshman in a TV Interview after the game. “Before the game I was so nervous like never before.”

To comfortable 5:1 lead Price was nothing to say. In his first world Cup final, he dominated the match from the third set of at will, was after six sets, with a match rate of 73 percent on the double fields; all around 50 percent is considered world-class. His favorite-double “Tops” (double 20) he met in the first 13 Try every Time.

In the sixth set Price missed the perfect game a nine-darter, only just. It was with a point of intersection of 136,64 per three Darts still the best record in the history of the world Cup.

Anderson played properly, but could not build on his previous achievements. Particularly on the outer rings it does not supply for the world champion of 2015 and 2016, in its fifth world Cup final. At the end of each fourth Dart was sitting just barely in the double.

Opportunities in the Darts better than the Rugby

For the Price of the world title is the crowning achievement of his second career as a professional athlete. “I think every day that I can be world champion, number one in the world,” Price had said after his eighth-final win against Mervyn King.

Seven years ago, the Welsh Darts player Barrie Bates advised his countryman Price, to try it out as a professional. He believed Years in the potential of today’s 35 -. Price won in January 2014, the tour map of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), and gave up his career as a Rugby professional to Darts professionals “pull the money out of your pocket,” as Price likes to say.

Then, in January 2014, Michael van Gerwen after his first world title the new world number one and remained there up to the title of Price. Seven years, the Dutchman was the number one, was at least six of which are unchallenged as the best player in the world.

An important factor of success: no Commotion more

In the season 2020, the Price won more tournaments on the professional tour than any other. And also at the last world Cup, he was over long distances is the best player. However, in an emotion-charged semi-final against the later world champion Peter Wright – the one that ended without a handshake – was not able to maintain Price level of the previous games.

A year later, it was mainly the narrow situations in which Price showed his class. Three of his six games he won in the final set, two of them even in the deciding Leg. Of the Shakes toward the end of his first world Cup Finals apart, Price had shown an impressive strength of nerves.

“As I’ve played all year, I believe that I deserve to have this trophy and to be number one,” said Price after his victory.

An important factor of success: Price has now in the handle. Two years ago, it came in the final of the World Grand Prix between Price and Anderson to a head. Price celebrated good throws again and again pointedly in the direction of his opponent, to pick up, rather than – as usual – the Darts directly after the throw out of the Board. Anderson was carried to even a small nudge against Price. While Price won the game, got from the PDC but a record of the money penalty, plus a three-month suspension of parole as a sanction for his behavior.

“I’m going to be quiet, he’s loud,” was Anderson’s answer before the world Cup final on the question of what kind of game he expected against Price.

So, it was not. Price seemed to be concentrated over long stretches of the game, in a high and quiet, and only rarely a shout broke from him. Had to interact with his outbursts earlier may also be the purpose on the opponent, seems he is now just excess energy to cry out, to have the necessary rest on Board.
