An alleged violent attack in the southern English city of Plymouth has apparently killed several people. Like the local police in a tweet according to reports, there have been several fatalities, injured people were treated at the scene of the accident. They were called to a “serious incident involving firearms” in the early evening, it added. However, the police assumed that the situation was now under control. The affected area in the Keyham district had been cordoned off and should be avoided.

Earlier, the broadcaster Sky News reported that an attacker involved was shot. At first, no details were known about the exact number of victims or the background of the acts.

According to the South Western Ambulance Service on Twitter, the operation involved “the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), several ambulances, doctors and senior paramedics.” A BBC reporter on the ground also reported on countless police vehicles and several helicopters.

British Home Secretary Priti Patel also took to Twitter to express her sympathy for those affected by the alleged violence. She called on the population to remain calm: “The incident in Plymouth is shocking and my thoughts are with those affected”.

Several local deputies called on residents to stay in their homes, follow police instructions and not share images or speculation on social media. Conservative Deputy Johnny Mercer wrote that the incident had no connection to terrorism and that the suspect was not on the run.

The Labour MP Luke Pollard tweeted“he is waiting for confirmation of how many victims there were in the incident. “But this looks like a very sad day for our city and our community,” Pollard wrote.
