Jeff Horseman got into journalism because he liked to write and stunk at math. He grew up in Vermont and he honed his interviewing skills as a supermarket cashier by asking Bernie Sanders “Paper or plastic?” After graduating from Syracuse University in 1999, Jeff began his journalistic odyssey at The Watertown Daily Times in upstate New York, where he impressed then-U.S. Senate candidate Hillary Clinton so much she called him “John” at the end of an interview. From there, he went to Annapolis, Maryland, where he covered city, county and state government at The Capital newspaper. Today, Jeff writes about anything and everything. Along the way, Jeff has covered wildfires, a tropical storm, 9/11 and the Dec. 2 terror attack in San Bernardino. If you have a question or story idea about politics or the inner workings of government, please let Jeff know. He’ll do his best to answer, even if it involves a little math.

Legal requirements in some countries for the protection of young people make innovations necessary. Google wants to implement internationally uniform settings.

Google is expanding the protection of minors in its web search and the video platform Youtube. Among the innovations announced on Tuesday is that the default upload setting of videos will be set to “Private” for users under the age of 18.

In addition, children as well as their parents and guardians will be given the opportunity to request the removal of their photos from Google Image Search.

The location history, which shows the visited places, will no longer be able to be activated for users under the age of 18 in the future. Among other things, Google pointed to new legal requirements in some countries, where they also want to offer internationally uniform usage settings.

The group is also expanding security measures that prevent children from being shown ad categories that are only allowed from a certain age. In addition, for people under the age of 18, the alignment of ads based on age, gender or their interests will be blocked worldwide in the coming months. YouTube disables autoplay for under-18s and turns on pause and bedtime reminders at the same time.
