Similar function to Apple
Google and Android working on new “find device” feature
Google is apparently working on a new feature for its “Find device”service. With the “Spot” app, users should be able to track down lost and misplaced devices in the future. iPhone owners have known this feature for several years.
Who constantly misplaced his Android smartphone, should soon get active help from the manufacturer. Under the name” Spot”, Google and Android are working on a feature that should make it possible to find lost phones.
Apple users will find this feature familiar. For several years it has been possible to use his iPhone, his Mac or the iPad through the ” Where is?”Function. The products communicate offline with each other via a Bluetooth signal and can thus determine the location of the device being searched for, if the option is activated.
New Google function probably only usable online
As the beta version of the new app, which has now appeared in the Play Store, shows, Google apparently takes a different path. The Internet blog “9to5 Google” analyzed the beta version 21.24.13 of the Google Play Services app and came across the new feature. Smartphones searched for must therefore be logged into a WLan network or have a sufficient Internet connection with the mobile data. In addition, the users must also agree to “application activated” here. As soon as the battery runs out or the Internet connection breaks, it is no longer possible to use “Spot”.
The data analysis also reveals further important information. Among other things, it should also be possible for Android users to support other users in their search for their devices. However, this is also optional and must be confirmed in advance by the individual holder of the device.
The authors assume that the logo of “Spot” could be a white triangle bordered by two more triangles in different shades of blue.
