Due to the rapid increase in new infections in the United States, the Internet giant Amazon postpones the planned return of its employees to the offices until January. Instead of September 7, January 3, 2022 is now considered the date from which employees should begin to regularly come to the office, as the company explained on Thursday. This also applies to other countries where the return was planned for September.

Employees who came to the office in the meantime would still have to wear a mask or prove a complete corona vaccination, Amazon further explained. The company employs more than one million people, but only a small proportion of them have traditional office jobs. Many employees work in logistics centers and delivery. Unlike Google or Facebook, Amazon has not yet imposed a mandatory vaccination for employees.

The number of new corona infections in the USA has skyrocketed from around 10,000 per day in June to an average of almost 90,000 by now. The dramatic increase despite the widely available vaccinations is mainly attributed to the particularly contagious delta variant of the virus. Numerous large US companies have therefore already postponed the return of their employees to work from the office, which is often scheduled for September, by one or several months.
