So-called 8D-music videos are one of the great Youtube-Trends. Music from the eight dimensions – how should this actually go? Behind it, a simpler Trick.

Youtube is not only the most successful video platform in the world, many people use the service to send for free with music in the Background with sound. In addition to the Studio versions of well-known Songs, recordings, and for some time also so-called 8D-music clip Live. This promise of an even broader feeling, to be so intense, as you would live at a concert, rave commentators. What exactly does that mean?

8D stands for …?

What 8D is, is not known. There are several theories, including eighth Dimension (which should be always) or “eight directions”, so eight directions (what comes to the top, bottom, left, right, front and rear?). But sense none of these variants results. Presumably, the abbreviation has been chosen arbitrarily, because, in the meantime, 10-, 12-, 16 or even 24D-shots are circulating already. According to the Motto: more is better.

The effect of 8D-Clips most clearly perceive, should you wear headphones. On this circumstance also, the video description makes frequent attention. “Played over the Stereo speakers they tend to sound odd when Listening on headphones, however, a natural result more impression than usual, for Stereo speakers designed to Mix,” writes the magazine “Stereo” via the so-called binaural sound files – this is basically the 8D-Mix.

8D-Songs are edited MP3s

Or to put it differently: The MP3 of an already existing song is processed with Audio plug-ins so and some would say still, that there is next to volume and the run-time differences. Some of the signals arrive simply put, first on the right and then on the left ear, resulting in a Räumlichkeits-like effect. In principle, it is so tricked out just the brain.

By the Hall effect, the Illusion is, you are standing in a room where the music wafts all the time around you only when Wearing headphones maintain. You can hear an 8D Song on normal Stereo speakers, the result is not very convincing.

In the case of 8D-Clips so it is only a psychoacoustic Gimmick. Does the success but does not crash: There are channels that specialize in 8D music videos and more than 6.5 million subscribers. The selection of artists ranging from Billie Eilish about Metallica to the movie soundtrack-composer Hans Zimmer.
